Execute Websphere Application Server applications in a pool of Websphere Application Server environments. These environments can be on the same system, a different system, or different platform. Benefits include:

• Execute applications on more appropriate servers, for example less-busy servers, or higher-performing servers for priority workloads.
• Route applications based on priority, service levels or other criteria.
• Improved availability - applications can be routed to alternate servers in event of a failure.

First released in 2011, separating Websphere Virtual Environment features from the previous Websphere Extended Deployment product. IBM support ended 2018: features available in base Websphere Application Server product.
