Originally created to rewrite the SAS software product in a language portable to many different operating systems. First released in 1985 as the Lattice Native Compiler as Modified by SAS Institute Inc. for IBM 370 Systems. Known as release 2.10C. This release was a port of version 2.00 of the Lattice C Compiler, a C compiler from Lattice Corporation for IBM PCs running DOS.
Release 3.00F was released in 1986, and renamed to SAS/C. This was a ported version 300 of the Lattice C Compiler. The SAS Institute acquired Lattice Corporation in 1987.
