Originally released by MRI Systems in 1970. Was intended to be called Data Central, but name was changed to System 2000 prior to the first release because of a usage conflict.
Acquired by Intel when it acquired MRI in 1979. At that time, was installed in 300 customer sites. Acquired by SAS Institute in 1984.
