Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA). Three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD), manufacturing (CAM) and engineering (CAE) software.

Originally developed in 1977 by Dassault as CATI (Conception Assistée Tridimensionnelle Interactive, or Interactive Aided Three-dimensional Design) for its internal use.

In 1981, released on MVS as the software product CATIA V1. Dassault formed an alliance with IBM to market the product. Used by Boeing from 1984. CATIA V2 released in 1984 with support for MVS and VM. CATIA V3 released in 1988 with workstation support. Ported to UNIX in 1993 (CATIA V4), the last released to support mainframes. Used by 8000 customers by 1995.

In 1998, a complete rewrite (CATIA V5) was released for UNIX and Windows without mainframe support.
