FDR provides a high-performance, “non-managed” volume and data set backup and restore, which can be used to meet special handling or retention requirements outside of the regular automated backups taken with FDRINC or FDRAPPL.
FDR is ideal for ad-hoc backups, backups of system volumes, or other volumes or datasets that may require special handling.
The dataset-level subcomponent of FDR (FDRDSF) allows you to take ad-hoc non-managed dataset-level backups.
From an FDR full volume backup, you can restore either the entire volume or individual datasets. On all restores of datasets, be it from an FDR volume backup or an FDRDSF dataset backup, you have the option to rename the dataset, and the dataset can also be restored to (and recataloged to) a different disk volume.
FDR and FDRDSF operate at the physical track level, ensuring optimum performance at all times on all backups and restores, and these “data mover” modules are also employed by all of Innovation’s other backup and restore utilities, including FDRINC, FDRAPPL and FDRARC.
