Software development company. First formed as a subsidiary of Dataproducts Corporation in the early 1960s performing contract software work. Spun off as a separate corporation in 1968. Merged with Equimatics, a subsidiary of Equitable Life Assurance Society, in the late 1970s.
Acquired by Sterling Software in 1985 from a hostile takeover for $126 million. At the time, Informatics was almost ten times larger than Sterling Software: Sterling Software revenues were $18.7 million; Informatics' $191 million.
