Tool to allow data to be piped between batch jobs: on the same system, or different systems in a Parallel Sysplex. Allows a second job to commence processing sequential data (BSAM or QSAM) before the job preparing this data has completed, reducing batch elapsed times.
First released as BatchPipes/MVS in the 1980s. Included BatchPipeWorks - tools to filter, reformat and route data. BatchPipes was merged into SmartBatch in 1996 with BMC BATCH ACCELERATOR and BMC DATA ACCELERATOR. SmartBatch also added BatchPipePlex (piping across systems in a Parallel Sysplex). Renamed back to BatchPipes (without the BMC products) in 2000.
