Transaction processing system and terminal manager with similar functionality to CICS. Often used together with TOTAL.
Originally created by Kent Salmond of ISS. ISS was acquired by Itel corporation in 1971. Itel sold Environ/1 to Cincom for $100,000. Environ/1 development was completed by Cincom, and became the first on-line system released independent of a hardware package. Together with TOTAL, Cincom became one of the first vendors to release an integrated database management and data communications solution.
