Innovation Access Method (IAM). Alternative access method to VSAM. Marketed as a higher-performance option to VSAM that is transparent to applications and utilities.
IAM/RLS provides record level sharing within a z/OS system, IAM/PLEX (also called IAMSPX) record level sharing across a Parallel Syspex. IAM/AIX adds support for alternate indexes.
First released 1972. IAM/AIX released 2000, IAM/PLEX released 2011. Acquired by Compuware from its acquisitiion of Innovation Data Processing in 2020, and then by BMC from its acquisition of Compuware in 2020 and renamed to BMC AMI Storage IAM
