UPSTREAM is built upon the 40+ years of experience that Innovation Data Processing has gained working in the Storage Management industry, and it has inherited the same high level of product reliability and ease-of-use that is the cornerstone of Innovation’s world-renowned FDR product family.
The FDR/UPSTREAM module provides secure file level protection of your open systems data directly to z/OS tape (Virtual or Physical Tape) or to DASD, allowing you to combine the backup of critical open systems data into your existing z/OS disaster recovery plans.
FDR/UPSTREAM allows you to take advantage of your z/OS mainframe environment (e.g. tape management, job scheduling and security systems) to provide industrial-strength file level backup and restore facilities for your open systems data.
Client platforms current supported for backup and restore by FDR/Upstream include Windows, Netware, Unix, Linux (including Linux for z Series), VMware and z/OS UNIX Systems Services.
Performance
UPSTREAM offers several unique data reduction techniques (e.g. incremental backup, merge backup and segmented backups) to minimize the amount of data to be transmitted between the open systems server being backed up and z/OS host.
Database Aware
FDR/UPSTREAM provides online, "hot" backup agents for Oracle, Lotus Notes Domino, SQL Server and Exchange, and DB2 (Universal Database Server), and also supports the backup of other databases and applications such as SAP.
The Director
The Director offers the FDR/UPSTREAM Administrator a single, centralised and system-wide point-of-control for all UPSTREAM operations. It’s a Java-based (or browser-enabled) Explorer-like interface, which can be installed on any server or workstation in your network. The Director’s features include system monitoring, performance & management control, and the ad-hoc or scheduled initiation of FDR/UPSTREAM tasks.
Upstream Reservoir
UPSTREAM RESERVOIR extends the power and protection of UPSTREAM to allow your backups to be hosted on an open systems “backup server” (e.g. running Windows, Unix or Linux) rather than on your z/OS host.
